Join the IFMA-Ottawa Chapter Lunch and Learn on Digitization and Facility Management, March 15 from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm.
Join your Chapter and local colleagues for a special Lunch and Learn with Prof. Michael May, PhD, University of Applied Sciences Berlin focused on Digitization and Facility Management.
The presentation will discuss different views on digitization. The importance of digital data and the various methods of its capture will be considered. Selected digitization technologies with specific relevance to FM will then be explained and some examples from own research activities will be provided. Among those technologies are CAFM/IWMS, BIM, IoT, Big Data, IT Integration, Augmented Reality and Simulation. The presentation will conclude by giving some recommendations on digitization.
Michael May is a Professor of Computer Sciences and Facility Management at the University of Applied Sciences HTW Berlin since 1994.
Before assuming his current position he was the head of the FM research department at the IIEF institute in Berlin and with the German Ministry of Research and Technology.
He earned his PhD in Mathematics in 1981 and his Habilitation in Information Technology in 1990 at the Berlin Academy of Sciences.
His current research is related to FM knowledge management, game-based learning, facility layout automation, IT integration, CAFM/IWMS, augmented reality and sustainability. He is the editor and author of several books among them “The Facility Manager’s Guide to Information Technology”.
He is a board member of the German Facility Management Association GEFMA and head of GEFMA’s IT work group. He represents GEFMA at the international level, e.g. at EuroFM and IFMA.
